Personalised Braille Bunnies

In the spirit of inclusivity, we’ve been working on a little something recently that we have sent out to a few customers already.

Now I can't take credit for this particular idea, as with most of our innovations, it came from one of our wonderful customers.

Now don’t get me wrong, I do love a challenge.  After personalising items for 18 years, I’m always looking for a challenge and this was certainly that.

So this is how it happened. A Mum with a vision impaired child asked me if I could create her childs name  in Braille to embroider on a Jellycat bunny, and I was intrigued with the idea.  As one of those kids that never saw their name on anything in the newsagent as a child, I love everyone to have their name on something, bunnies, teddies, towels or whatever. I’m obsessed with custom everything.

But I so loved this idea and was totally on board.  It took a few goes and a lot of manipulating of stitches, but behold our Braille bunnies.

So it’s not ever going to be the same result or as readable as the crisp classic braille on paper, but considering we are dealing with stitches on fur, it’s a fantastic outcome.  We’ve had fantastic feedback and I love that kids that might not necessarily have had their own bunny, now can. 

I recommend choosing a bunny with fabric on the front of the ear, either floral or stars, so we don’t have to contend with the fur on the front also.  It’s a nicer and more easily read result.

We have a braille calculator so can convert your littel ones name into embroidery for you.  We’ll also send through a draft so you can see that we have constructed the stitches correctly.  If there is anything amiss at this point, please let us know.

You can also tell us what colour thread you would like to us, and we’ll apply those preferences too.

How long do they take to make and arrive

It usually takes about a week to get to you within Australia, and as a rule we use express post as standard.

If there isn’t something we’ve mentioned, feel free to message me.  We obviously can’t embroidery in braille for a birth block, but for a simple first name, we can embroider on the tummy of our plushies too, which come in a huge range of animals.

How to order.

The ordering of your braille toy is pretty easy really.  Just add the name that you would like to the order and then, in the instructions area, just mention that you would like the embroidery to be in braille. Some customers message me the braille too, but that’s up to you.  

As mentioned, I’ll create the braille design for you and send it for approval via the email you have entered on your order.
